The Story of the Poppy

This Veteran's Day is a great day to remember our veteran's who served so we could live the wonderful lives we have in America today. But do you know why the poppy flower is synonymous with our Veteran's? It comes from a poem called
"In Flanders Field," written in 1915.

       "In Flanders Field

       The poppies blow

       In between the crosses

       Row on row"

Poppies are also a flower that grows best in soil that is frequently disturbed, and that area of Normandy is known for their poppy flower. So, a fun way to remember the Vet from every generation is to involve the kids and have them create poppy flowers from used egg cartons.

You need only the paper egg carton to cut up, red acrylic paint, and black & yellow construction paper for the center of the flower.

Be sure to Instagram your projects and #TheSilverBarnSalutesOurVets so we can see your masterpieces.
